WoW Forever Paladin PvP Guide: Retribution & Holy/Protection

Published

Animated Paladin defensive cooldown comparison

Verdict

Forever Paladin is available to both factions, including Undead Paladin on Horde (1). Documented additions include Holy Strike, Hammer of the Righteous, Seal of Fury, Templar's Bulwark, Sacred Duty, Unsealed Wrath, and a Cleanse that removes poison, disease, and magic (1). The October 30 hotfix-cache extraction changed the trees (3), so both builds remain provisional until its prerequisite arrows can be checked against a complete client cache or in game. Build A is Retribution 0/20/31 and Build B is Holy/Protection 31/20/0; the previous numerical Retribution burst result is withheld while the inputs remain conflicted.

ContextTierWhy
BattlegroundsSExtremely durable healer; Retribution adds Judgement and Hammer of Justice burst.
World PvPAVery resilient, but Pursuit of Justice is not a true gap closer.
DuelsSStrong into melee; disciplined Frost Mage and Warlock play remains difficult (4).
DuoS+Holy with Warrior or Rogue supplies Freedom, BoP, Cleanse, and Sacrifice.
TrioSTargeted Freedom, BoP, and Sacrifice provide crowd-control counterplay.
Hyjal 5v5S+Three-type Cleanse and targeted Blessings provide exceptional control denial (4).
Rated GilneasSExceptional node defender (4).

Divine Shield, Divine Protection, and Templar's Bulwark share Forbearance (1)/(3); normally only one is available per minute. Sacred Duty reduces their cooldowns.

Exact builds

Build A — Retribution Repentance/Unsealed Wrath — 0/20/31

The allocation totals 51 points and satisfies the encoded five-points-per-row gates. Protection 20 supplies Guardian's Favor, Sacred Duty, Precision, Templar's Bulwark, and Improved Hammer of Justice. Retribution 31 supplies Improved Judgement, Conviction, Seal of Command, Pursuit of Justice, Unyielding Faith, Two-Handed Weapon Specialization, Sacred Arbiter, Repentance, Vengeance, and Unsealed Wrath. Prerequisite arrows were absent from the source archive and remain unverified (4).

The October 30 community cache reports Champion of the Light as a five-rank talent reaching 60%, Spiritual Focus as five ranks in row 1, and Unyielding Faith in Retribution row 3. Earlier published Blizzard material and the raw 70707 client tables do not encode that same state. These entries are therefore Beta / Datamine, not confirmed client values.

Paladin defensive value under focused damage
Modeled damage negated under a 900-DPS focus scenario (4).

The planning order is Bulwark first because it preserves offense, Divine Shield when healing while immune matters, and Divine Protection last because attacking is disabled (4). Classic DR—100%, 50%, 25%, then immunity with reset after the category window—is used only as a planning baseline; Forever's full DR table is unpublished (2)/(4).

Diminishing returns — what is known

Classic 100% → 50% → 25% → immunity with a 15-second reset is only a planning baseline (2)/(4). Entrapment gaining DR is the only documented change (3); all other categories and the absence of a TBC-style ten-second cap remain assumptions (4).

Elite rotations

1. Into casters: approach under Freedom, Hammer of Justice, Judgement, Holy Strike, Hammer of the Righteous, then Repentance after a trinket before the second burst. 2. Into melee: maintain Seal of Command; use Bulwark around 50%. BoP stops physical pressure but also prevents your attacks. 3. Holy: use Flash of Light for repeated casts, Holy Shock while moving, Divine Favor with Holy Light for a large deficit, and prioritize Cleanse on magical crowd control.

Synergies and compositions

Holy Paladin with Warrior or Rogue is the reference duo. In trios and 5v5, Freedom, BoP, Sacrifice, and three-type Cleanse provide the source's documented control counterplay; ratings remain pre-ladder theory (4).

Racials

RaceTier (4)Key point
HumanSWill to Survive against stuns; Ruthless
DwarfSStoneform; announced +1% hit
Undead (new)S+Will of the Forsaken answers Paladin's main Fear weakness; Touch of the Grave; Cannibalize +7% mana

Gear

Human is modeled S for Will to Survive and Ruthless; Dwarf S for Stoneform and the announced hit bonus; Undead S+ because Will of the Forsaken answers Paladin's main Fear weakness, alongside Touch of the Grave and Cannibalize mana (3)/(4). These are pre-season tiers.

Retribution pre-BiS references Arcanite Reaper or Bonereaver's Edge, Lionheart Helm, and Hand of Justice; Holy uses healing gear and Briarwood Reed (2)/(4). Prioritize Stamina, required hit, Strength/AP, crit, then Intellect/SP for Retribution; Stamina, Intellect, healing, and mp5 for Holy (4).

Forever PvP progression

Forever PvP progression uses Rank Points rather than weekly standing: cumulative R1–R14 cost is 24,750, Honor caps at 25,000, the Insignia unlocks at R2, Forever sets at R10/R13, and weapons at R14 (1). Rank gates and week-ten R14 timing remain notes-only (3).

Consumables and professions

Addons

Forever changes

Forever changes retained from the source are cross-faction Paladin, Holy Strike, Hammer of the Righteous, Seal of Fury, Templar's Bulwark, Sacred Duty, Unsealed Wrath, Champion of the Light, Infusion of Light, Light's Vigil, Oath of Light, three-type Cleanse, and the revised immunity penalties (1). The October 30 tree changes remain notes-only (3).

Unverified

  • October 30 prerequisite arrows and final build legality in the live calculator.
  • Whether Bulwark shares Forbearance exactly as modeled.
  • Judgement of Command's stunned-target bonus under Forever server rules.
  • All Retribution output and matchup tiers are model assumptions (4).
