WoW Forever Rogue PvP Guide: Mutilate & Hemorrhage
Published

Verdict
Forever Rogue keeps the Classic control identity while moving Premeditation and Cold Blood to 16 points, Mutilate to 21, making Setup and Initiative 100%, reducing Vanish and Blind through Elusiveness, and allowing Sap without breaking Stealth (1). Build A is Mutilate/Preparation 30/0/21; Build B is Hemo/Preparation 20/0/31. Their six-second source models are close at 1,600 AP—6,961 and 7,075—so utility, not the small modeled gap, should decide the build (4).
| Context | Tier | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Battlegrounds | A | Excellent at killing isolated healers and carriers through Sap → Cheap Shot → Kidney Shot; weaker in large node melees with area damage. |
| World PvP | S+ | King of the opener: you choose your fights, and Vanish (3.5 min) plus Preparation provides two resets. |
| Duels | S | Wins against most cloth users when the opener lands; loses to a Warrior with trinket and Berserker Rage, a well-played Tremor/Grounding Shaman, or a Druid (4). |
| Duo | S+ | Rogue with Priest, Druid, or Paladin offers effectively unlimited Sap/Gouge/Blind/Kidney control plus sustained damage. |
| Trio | S+ | Rogue/Mage/Priest or Rogue/Warlock/Priest with overlapping control chains. |
| Hyjal 5v5 arena | S | Pre-combat Sap no longer breaks Stealth, creating a theoretical 5v4 opener (4). |
| Rated Battle for Gilneas | A | Sap the node defender and capture from stealth; less useful in the team fight (4). |
The reason is total engagement control: Stealth and Stealth-safe Sap, four distinct control families, a five-second Kick on a ten-second cooldown, and Evasion/Vanish/Sprint. Forever Distract also reduces detection for ten seconds but alerts the target (3).
Exact builds
Build A — Mutilate/Preparation — 30/0/21 This 51-point allocation reaches Mutilate, Improved Kidney Shot, Seal Fate, Cold Blood, and Preparation. Five-point row gates pass; prerequisite arrows remain unverified (4).
Build B — Hemorrhage/Preparation — 20/0/31 This 51-point allocation reaches Hemorrhage, Ghostly Strike, Setup, Heightened Senses, Dirty Deeds, Quietus, Thousand Cuts, and Preparation. Prerequisite arrows remain unverified (4).
PvP kit and model
| Tool | Forever value | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Cheap Shot | 4-sec stun, 2 combo points (+1 from Initiative) | (2) |
| Kidney Shot | 1–6 sec by combo points; 5 points = 6 sec | (2) |
| Gouge rank 5 | 4 sec (+1.5 sec Improved Gouge), breaks on damage | (2) |
| Blind | 10 sec, 5-min cooldown (3.5 min with Elusiveness) | (2)/(1) |
| Sap rank 3 | 45 sec out of combat, no longer breaks Stealth | (1) |
| Kick rank 4 | 5-sec lockout, 10-sec cooldown | (2) |
| Vanish rank 2 | breaks slows; 5-min cooldown (3.5 min) | (2)/(1) |
| Evasion / Sprint | 50% dodge for 15 sec / +70% for 15 sec; 5-min cooldown (-60% with Endurance Combat) | (2)/(1) |
| Backstab rank 9 | 150% + 150 (Classic 225) | (1) |
| Ambush rank 6 | 250% + 290 | (2) |
| Poisons | +50% charges and stack with sharpening stones | (1) |
| 5-point Expose Armor | -2,250 armor (five Sunder Armor applications) | (1) |
Cheap Shot is a four-second controlled stun; five-point Kidney Shot lasts six seconds; Gouge lasts four seconds before Improved Gouge; Blind lasts ten seconds; Sap lasts 45 seconds out of combat and no longer breaks Stealth; Kick locks a school for five seconds; Vanish breaks slows; Evasion grants 50% dodge for 15 seconds; Sprint grants 70% movement for 15 seconds (1)/(2). Backstab is 150% +150, Ambush 250% +290, poison charges increase 50%, and five-point Expose Armor equals five Sunder Armor applications (1)/(2).

At 1,600 AP, Build A models Ambush 1,652, Mutilate 782, Cold Blood Eviscerate 2,269, white attacks 1,835, and poisons 422: 6,961. Build B models Ambush 1,451, Hemorrhage 538, Ghostly Strike 668, Eviscerate 2,269, white attacks 1,835, and poisons 314: 7,075. After the source's 3,500-armor factor, estimates are 4,253 and 4,323 (4).
The source assumes daggers at 80 damage / 1.8 speed and 70 / 1.8. Its physical armor factor is ×0.611; poisons ignore armor, slightly improving Build A after mitigation. Build B fits one additional global, while Build A answers with Seal Fate, +10% personal damage during Improved Kidney Shot, and stronger poisons. The source verdict is a tie: A for Kidney burst, B for Ghostly Strike, Heightened Senses, and Setup utility (4).

The source chain is Cheap Shot 4 sec, Kidney 6, Gouge 4, Blind 10, Preparation, half-DR Kidney 3, and half-DR Blind 5. Forever's complete DR table is unpublished; Kidney being separate from controlled stuns remains a Classic planning assumption (2)/(4).
Sustain comes from Evasion and Vanish; Cloak of Shadows does not exist in this Classic ruleset (2), so casters are handled through Kick, Blind, and Vanish. Rogue has no dispel or immunity. Mobility comes from Sprint, Vanish clearing slows, and Dirty Deeds allowing frontal Garrote.
Diminishing returns — what is known
- (2)/(4) Classic assumption: 100% → 50% → 25% → immunity, resetting 15 seconds—roughly 18 in practice—after the last effect in that category ends. Forever's DR rules are unpublished.
- (3) The only documented change is that Hunter Entrapment receives diminishing returns in the October 8 development notes.
- (2)/(4) Assumed Classic categories: controlled stuns; Kidney Shot separately; fears; incapacities; roots; Freezing Trap; Blind; and Death Coil/Horror separately. No TBC-style ten-second PvP cap is documented for Forever, so tooltip durations are used before DR (4).
Elite openers
1. Against a caster: Sap while retaining Stealth → position → Cheap Shot → Mutilate/Hemorrhage twice → five-point Kidney → Kick the first cast after Kidney → Gouge → bandage or pool energy → Blind after the trinket. 2. Against Warrior: Ambush with Cold Blood → Mutilate → Eviscerate; use Evasion into Recklessness, Blind Berserker Rage, and keep Crippling Poison active. 3. Against Druid/Hunter: Cheap Shot, Kidney; Expose Armor is unnecessary. Kick Regrowth/Entangling Roots, Blind the Hunter rather than the pet, then handle the pet. 4. Premeditation: two combo points prepared out of Stealth for 20 seconds allow an immediate five-point Kidney after Cheap Shot: Cheap 2 + Initiative 1 + Premeditation 2.
Matchups
| Class | Forecast (4) | Plan | Danger |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mage | Favorable with opener | Sap → Cheap Shot → Kidney → Kick Frostbolt/Polymorph | Blink escapes the stun (2), Frost Nova, Ice Block |
| Warlock | 50/50 | Kick Fear—the Shadow lockout also blocks Shadow Bolt for 5 sec—and Blind either Succubus or Warlock | Death Coil, Fear, Howl, DoTs preventing Vanish |
| Priest | Favorable vs Shadow / long vs Discipline | Kick Mind Blast; Blind around Psychic Scream | Psychic Scream, PW:S, Silent Resolve's -15% stun duration |
| Warrior | Unfavorable without opener | Full opener plus Evasion | Berserker Rage, Hamstring, Intimidating Shout |
| Hunter | Favorable in melee | Open close and remain in contact | Freezing Trap, Scatter Shot, Flare breaking Stealth |
| Paladin | Unfavorable vs Forever Retribution | Kick Holy Light; Blind after Divine Shield | Divine Shield, Hammer of Justice, Repentance, poison cleansing |
| Shaman | 50/50 | Kick Lava Burst/heal; Blind | Earthbind, Purge, Grounding, Earth Shock |
| Druid | Unfavorable | Kick Regrowth; Kidney in form | Shapeshift clearing snares, Bash, Barkskin |
| Rogue | Mirror | The opener decides it; Heightened Senses favors Build B | Blind, Vanish |
Synergies and compositions
- Duo: Rogue + Discipline Priest (S+), Rogue + Mage (S), Rogue + Warlock (S), Rogue + Holy Paladin (A).
- Improved Kidney Shot no longer benefits the group: its +10% applies only to your attacks (1). Five-point Expose Armor equals five Sunder Armor applications for a Warrior or Hunter partner (1).
- Rogues can equip axes (1), and Hack and Slash treats axes as swords for its extra-attack proc (1).

- Stat priority: Stamina > 5–6% hit—Precision now also supplies poison spell hit (1)—> AP/Agility > crit (4).
Forever PvP progression
- (1) Weekly-standing ranking is removed. Rank is a renown track bought with Rank Points from battlegrounds and Gadgetzan tasks. R1→R14 costs 24,750 points cumulatively; Honor is capped at 25,000 and buys rewards.
- (1) Unlocks: R2 PvP Insignia, R3 cloak, R4 necklace, R5 Combat Potions, R8 bracers plus elite belt, R9 boots, R10 gloves plus ilvl-60 Forever set, R11 mount, R12 legs plus shoulders, R13 chest plus helm and epic Forever set, R14 weapons.
- (3) Field of Honor gates open around weeks 4, 7, and 10, making R14 available no earlier than roughly week 10.
- (1)/(3) Modes: WSG 10v10, AB 15v15, AV 40v40, new Darkspear Islands 15v15, rated Battle for Gilneas 10v10, and rated Hyjal Crater 5v5 arena.
- (3) The beta PvP critical-strike penalty was a bug fixed October 8; critical strikes return to 100% value.

| Swiftness Potion | +50% speed for 15 sec for escape or flag pursuit | (2)/(4) |
| Greater Protection Potions | Absorb about 1,950–2,600 Shadow/Fire/Frost/Nature/Arcane damage | (2)/(4) |

| Engineering | Thorium/Iron Grenades (3-sec off-GCD stun), Net-o-Matic, Rocket Boots, Sapper Charge, Dragonling, Mind Control Cap, Reflectors | (2); each gadget's Forever availability is (4); Gnome Engineering Specialization has -20% gadget failure (3) |
If Blizzard removed or reduced Engineering gadgets—none are listed in current notes—Engineering remains useful for grenades and explosives (4). The second profession should craft the chosen BiS or support potion economy. Rogue-specific consumables are Instant Poison main hand plus Crippling off hand by default, Mind-numbing against casters, Wound against healers, Thistle Tea, Flash Powder, and Blinding Powder (2).

The built-in cooldown manager now handles racials (October 1 notes) (3).
