WoW Forever Shaman PvP Guide: Elemental & Enhancement
Published

Verdict
Elemental/Nature's Swiftness 30/0/21 is the ranged-control reference build; Enhancement 20/31/0 is the melee alternative. Forever adds Spirit Link, Lava Burst, dual wield and revised weapon/totem interactions while retaining the Shaman's purge, interrupt and grounding identity (1)/(3). Exact live coefficients, prerequisite arrows and the complete diminishing-return map remain unconfirmed.
| Context | Tier | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Battlegrounds | S+ | Purge, Grounding, Tremor, Earthbind/Earthbound, Frost Shock, and healing make elite group utility. |
| World PvP | A | Instant talented Ghost Wolf and Lava Burst/Shock pressure. |
| Duels | A | Grounding and Tremor answer Mage/Warlock; Rogue/Warrior are harder without initiative (4). |
| Duo | S | Shaman plus Warrior/Rogue: Windfury Totem, Purge, healing. |
| Trio | S | Group counter-control through Tremor against Fear and Grounding against Polymorph. |
| Hyjal 5v5 arena | S+ | Purge, Grounding, Tremor, and NS healing are irreplaceable (4). |
| Rated Battle for Gilneas | S | Earthbound plus Fire Nova at a node (4). |
Exact builds
Build A — Elemental/Nature's Swiftness — 30/0/21 This exact 51-point allocation combines the Elemental damage core with Nature's Swiftness and Restoration utility. Five-point row gates pass; prerequisite arrows remain unverified (4).
Build B — Enhancement — 20/31/0 This exact 51-point allocation reaches the Enhancement weapon package and keeps the Elemental support points listed in the source. Five-point row gates pass; prerequisite arrows remain unverified (4).

Earth Shock is the short school lockout, Frost Shock supplies instant control, Purge removes enemy magic, Grounding Totem intercepts a hostile spell, Tremor Totem answers fear effects, and Poison Cleansing and disease tools retain their Classic utility assumptions (2). Elemental Mastery, Nature's Swiftness, Lightning Mastery, Lava Burst, Spirit Link and the revised Enhancement talents follow the Forever evidence labels in the source rather than being treated as final live tuning (1)/(3).

The source model preserves its exact attack-power, spell-power, armor and critical-strike assumptions. Its values are reproducible from numbers.json; any interpolation between the documented points remains a model assumption (4).
At 600 SP, the Elemental model gives 366 sustained DPS and 3,181 damage over six seconds from Flame Shock → Lava Burst with its 20% bonus → Earth Shock → Nature's Swiftness/instant Lightning Bolt. Its comparison points are Moonkin 3,575 and Shadow Priest 2,745. Forever's listed Shaman base spell values are lower than Classic and therefore scale more heavily with spell power (1)/(4).
At 1,600 AP with a 3.6-speed two-hander before armor, the Enhancement model gives white attacks plus Windfury 2,933, Stormstrike 1,182, and Stormstrike-buffed Earth Shock 408, totaling 4,524. Rockbiter gives +653 AP; Windfury overtakes it at about 1,100 AP, so the source recommends Windfury for level-60 PvP gear (4).

Elite rotations
Elemental opens by establishing the required utility totems, purging valuable buffs, forcing movement with shocks, and protecting the Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning window with Grounding and positioning. Nature's Swiftness is a recovery or kill-window resource, not routine throughput. Enhancement uses Frost Shock and totems to reach the target, preserves Purge and Earth Shock for decisive buffs and casts, and commits its weapon burst only after defensive control is accounted for (2)/(4).
Diminishing returns — what is known
Classic 100% → 50% → 25% → immunity with a 15-second reset is the planning baseline (2)/(4). Entrapment gaining DR is the only documented change (3); all other categories and the absence of a TBC-style ten-second cap remain assumptions (4).
Matchups
| Class | Forecast (4) | Plan | Danger |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warrior | 50/50 | Earthbound, Frost Shock, kite | Mortal Strike on heals |
| Rogue | Unfavorable | Earthbind/Earthbound after Vanish; Poison Cleansing | Kidney plus Kick |
| Mage | Favorable | Grounding Polymorph/Frostbolt; Purge Ice Barrier, not Ice Block | Counterspell, Frost Nova |
| Warlock | Favorable | Tremor plus Grounding | Curse of Tongues, DoTs |
| Priest | Favorable | Tremor; Purge Shield/Fear Ward | Mana Burn, dispel |
| Hunter | 50/50 | Grounding Viper Sting—Scatter is physical—then line of sight | Viper Sting |
| Paladin | 50/50 | Purge Freedom/BoP; Divine Shield is not purgeable | Hammer of Justice, Cleanse |
| Druid | 50/50 | Purge HoTs; Earth Shock healing | Roots; Cyclone does not exist (2) |
| Shaman | Mirror | Purge and place Grounding first | Earth Shock |
Synergies and compositions
Windfury Totem is a group buff rather than an imbue and does not stack with Grace of Air; a Shaman using Windfury Weapon does not benefit (3). Flametongue Totem follows the same group-buff rule (3), while Resistance Totems cover the raid (1). Reference duos are Shaman + Warrior (S+), Rogue (S), and Hunter (A).
Racials
| Race | Tier (4) | Key point |
|---|---|---|
| Orc | S+ | Hardiness, Blood Fury for AP and SP, Shatter Curse |
| Tauren | S | War Stomp 2-sec interrupting stun; Endurance |
| Troll | S | Berserking; Rapid Regeneration |
| Dwarf — Alliance | S | Stoneform |
| Windshaper Skyborne | A | +2% haste |
Gear
Elemental prioritizes Stamina, the required spell hit, spell power, Intellect and critical strike; Enhancement prioritizes Stamina, melee hit, weapon damage, Strength/Agility and critical strike. Preserve the source's named pre-BiS references and verify every item against the live ruleset before acquisition (2)/(4). PvP progression remains 24,750 cumulative Rank Points with the 25,000 weekly Honor cap, Insignia at R2, armor milestones at R10/R13 and weapons at R14 (1). Engineering and consumables remain Classic references until their Forever availability is verified individually (2)/(4).
Forever PvP progression
The source sequence remains R2 Insignia, R3 cloak, R4 necklace, R5 Combat Potions, R8 bracers/belt, R9 boots, R10 gloves/set, R11 mount, R12 legs/shoulders, R13 chest/helm/epic set, R14 weapons. Field of Honor gates imply week-ten R14 at earliest (3); all six listed PvP modes retain their evidence labels.
Consumables and professions
| Item | PvP use | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Combat Potions (R5) | PvP potions unlocked at rank 5 | (1) |
| Free Action / Living Action | Root/stun protection for 30 sec / 5 sec | (2)/(4) |
| Limited Invulnerability | 6 sec physical immunity | (2)/(4) |
| Swiftness | +50% speed for 15 sec | (2)/(4) |
| Greater Protection Potions | Absorb about 1,950–2,600 from one school | (2)/(4) |
| Major Healing / Mana / Healthstone | Potions share cooldown; Healthstone separate | (2) |
| Juju / Elixirs | One-hour stat buffs | (2)/(4) |
| Engineering | Grenades, Net-o-Matic, boots, Sapper, Dragonling, Mind Control Cap, Reflectors | (2), individual availability (4) |
Macros
The source macros retain their exact intent: focus Earth Shock, focus Purge, Nature's Swiftness plus mouseover/player Healing Wave, and Earthbind Totem placement. Client syntax must be tested (4).
Addons
LoseControl/BigDebuffs, OmniCC, arena frames if exposed, battleground targets, WeakAuras, and optional TotemTimers remain unconfirmed ports (4); Call of the Elements provides a native totem bar (1).
Forever changes
Retained changes include the revised talent positions, Spirit Link, Lava Burst, dual wield and the stated weapon/totem revisions from the supplied source (1)/(3). Server-side coefficients, prerequisite arrows, shock DR, Windfury internal rules, proc normalization and the complete itemization path remain unverified. The charts are source-model outputs, never claims of final server balance (4).
Unverified
Blizzard's October 26 notes remove Call of Thunder and describe the Elemental Alacrity → Lightning Overload → Elemental Fury chain; the obsolete Call of Thunder warning has therefore been removed. Windfury Totem versus imbue rules, the complete current-hotfix prerequisite graph, and both Elemental/Enhancement models remain unverified (3)/(4).
