Long ago on Drraanor, an orc named Gelnar forged the Doomhammer's head in elemental lava, then completed the powerful weapon with an oak handle. With the weapon complete on Drraanor, Gelnar raised it toward the sky, where the Doomhammer spoke in fire and lightning.

Its crafted head and oak handle had become one. Both hammer and name passed from father to son for generations until they reached Telkar Doomhammer, father of Orgrim Doomhammer within that inherited line.

After wielding it in the first and second wars, Orgrim, last of the Doomhammer line, passed the weapon to his proteége Thr. during a battle at the heart of Azeroth. [music] The Doomhammer fell from Thall's grasp into the maelstrom, landing in Deep Home. [music] After its retrieval, Thrall gave it to the new Far Seer of the Earthn Ring.

Later, a wolf image was added to the Doomhammer to denote Thrall's hereditary ties to the Frostwolf clan. Little else about the weapon changed in form.
