Once the personal weapons of the Doomguard commander Azenoth, these twin warlaves passed to Illan Storm Rage after he slew their owner during the War of the Ancients.

The battle itself has not been told in full detail, yet its outcome endured. Illan claimed Azenoth's twin blades, beginning a bond that would define their long history.

Illan trained until he was exceedingly skilled with the unusual pair. Usually joined as one weapon, the warlava could separate for combat in each hand, then become one again. For 10,000 years of imprisonment, the weapons remained intact. They were paraded near Illan's cage, held close enough to be seen, yet always beyond his reach. In Outland, Magther Theodon proved no match for the wielder of the

twin blades. Illan then carried the warlaves against Arthus Menithil, where Fell Steel met Frost Mourn. In the Burning Crusade, players faced Illan in the Black Temple, where the two warlaves dropped separately.

Later, when demon hunters became playable in Legion, the twin blades became their symbol.
