Summary
Before his fall, Alexandros Mograine was remembered as a Highlord of the Silver Hand, an Alliance hero of Lordaeron, and the original wielder of the Ashbringer. His story moved from the battlefields of the Second War into a family tragedy that continued through betrayal near Stratholme, Naxxramas, the Scarlet Monastery, and two battles at Light's Hope Chapel.
Chapter I
BEFORE THE ASHBRINGER
Before the name Ashbringer defined him, Alexandros Mograine served among the paladins of the Silver Hand during the Second War. At Blackrock Spire, he recovered a dark crystal from an orc warlock, an object whose power would later be turned against the undead.
The crystal was purified and forged into the heart of the Ashbringer. Alexandros became the weapon's original wielder and one of the Highlords of the Silver Hand: an Alliance veteran whose name became inseparable from the blade he carried against the Scourge.

Chapter II
A HIGHLORD OF LORDAERON
As a hero of the Alliance of Lordaeron, Alexandros led soldiers and paladins through bloody battles against the Orcish Horde during the Second War. Later, the Ashbringer made him a symbol of resistance against the Scourge, but also placed him at the center of the tragedy that overtook his family.
His eldest son Renault betrayed him, luring Alexandros into an ambush near Stratholme and killing him with the Ashbringer. Kel'Thuzad then raised Alexandros as a death knight and one of the Four Horsemen of Naxxramas, with the once-holy blade corrupted by the betrayal.

Chapter III
FROM NAXXRAMAS TO LIGHT'S HOPE
Darion entered Naxxramas, defeated his undead father, and recovered the Corrupted Ashbringer. At the Scarlet Monastery, Alexandros's spirit emerged from the blade and killed Renault for his betrayal. Later, at the first battle for Light's Hope Chapel, Darion drove the sword into his own heart. His sacrifice freed his father's soul and saved the chapel from the Scourge.
Years later, during the second battle for Light's Hope, an apparition of Alexandros appeared before Darion as he relived a memory of his father. The Lich King banished the apparition, but Darion resisted his master and cast the Corrupted Ashbringer to Tirion Fordring. On the chapel's holy ground, Tirion purified the blade and forced the Lich King to retreat.
