Durotan: A Legend Who Gave Birth to THE Legend
When Gul'dan offered the orcs the blood of a demon, the chieftains drank.
1:28
Summary
Durotan led the Frostwolf clan with loyalty to its traditions when Gul'dan offered the orc chieftains the blood of Mannoroth. His refusal brought exile, but it also defined the inheritance he left his son. Betrayed after warning Orgrim Doomhammer, Durotan and Draka died in the snow, leaving the infant Go'el to survive and one day be known as Thrall.
Chapter I
THE CHIEFTAIN WHO REFUSED
Durotan was the respected chieftain of the Frostwolf clan, warriors who rode great white wolves and honored the spirits. When Gul'dan offered the orc chieftains the blood of Mannoroth, many drank. Durotan refused, and the Frostwolves refused with him.
That decision did not leave them untouched by Gul'dan's power. The clan was cast out of the Horde and driven into the frozen Alterac Mountains. Durotan preserved the choice he believed was right, but he could not shield his people from its cost. Exile became the ground on which the final part of his story would unfold.
Chapter II
A SON BORN IN EXILE
In the mountains, Durotan and Draka welcomed their son, Go'el. The child was born with green skin, evidence that the fel corruption afflicting the orcs had reached even the family of the chieftain who refused Mannoroth's blood.
Go'el entered the world far from the place his clan had once held within the Horde. His birth joined two truths that defined the Frostwolves' exile: Durotan had resisted Gul'dan, yet his family still bore the visible consequences of what had been done to the orcs. The father's defiance could not prevent the corruption from touching the son.
Chapter III
THE WARNING IN THE SNOW
Durotan warned his old friend Orgrim Doomhammer about Gul'dan and the corruption consuming the Horde. After their meeting, the guards assigned to escort Durotan and his family home revealed their loyalty to the Shadow Council. They murdered Durotan and Draka in the snow and left their infant to die in the cold.
A human lord found the child and gave him the name Thrall. Durotan did not live to see what his son would become, but his death followed the warning he had delivered against Gul'dan. The chieftain's story ends in betrayal; the abandoned child's story begins where his parents fell.
